in exploring the world for new recipe’s to feed my awesome family, I came across this recipe on gabby reece’s website. she post’s stuff that she feeds her family, and their life and exercise and basic things like that. I have become slightly addicted to her website http://www.gabbyreece360.com it’s full of great information.
I really wanted to make something new with chicken, as chicken on a whole seems to be our favorite food in this household. it’s so versatile and yummy.
this is her recipe:
10-15 chicken thighs
2 cups of soy sauce (low sodium or Braggs)
1/2 cup Oyster sauce (you can find it in the Asian section of the grocery store)
3 to 4 cloves of minced garlic
2 to 3 inches of ginger (depending on how strong you want the flavor)
1/2 cup of brown sugar
salt and pepper to taste
(my take on hawaiian Shoyu Chicken, with a side of Italian cheesy rice and sweet corn
but me not having for once fresh garlic, and I never buy fresh ginger as I don’t use it enough, I compromised, as well as never even thinking about oyster sauce since I hate with a passion all things fishy, yes I know how can I write a food blog if I hate any certain kind of food, well because I can :)
so I switched up the recipe, which my fellow co-writer and I seem to have in-common and do often.
this is my recipe:
3-4 boneless skinless chicken breasts cut in half
1/2* C soysauce
1/4 C tamari (tamari is yummy and a little deeper than regular soy sauce with a slight smell of wheat, it’s a more tradition soy sauce)
1/8 C terryaki sauce
1/2 C brown sugar (not packed)
1 tsp powdered ginger (more to taste)
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp chives either fresh or dried
let marinate at the very least all day, over night if you can. then bake at 325 for the first 30 min covered, then turn and recover and bake another 30 minutes at 350. you could throw them under the broiler if you want them crispier just reduce oven cooking time to allow for that so they don’t dry out.
I have to say this chicken came out so good, even the girl gobbled it up. For me winging it usually works, which always amazes me, as long as you taste things before you add something like raw chicken to marinate and make sure it’s palatable I think everyone could wing it :) make it tonight, and enjoy.
